The Northern Suburbs Hockey club was formed on the 24th August 1972. It was only in December 1972 that North's first requested affiliation with the Toowoomba Hockey Association. The vote was deadlocked and required the THA President Mr Trevor Elliot, to case the deciding vote. Once accepted, North's registered the colours Green, Black, and White. The “Devil” was selected as the club’s emblem. North’s fielded ‘A’ grade and ‘B’ grade teams in the 1973 season. The club’s first games were played in Brisbane on Sunday 11 March 1973.

In its first game with the THA, North's ‘A’ Team was required to play a reserve grade game for the knockout round. Due to an error Northern Suburbs were left out of the reserve grade knockout final but the THA fixture committee admitted the club into the ‘A’ grade competition for the1973 season. The minutes record that the club would be an all male club “until such time as it considered necessary to include a women’ team and then only if at least 75% of all members agreed upon the matter”. Happily in 1977 the first Northern Suburbs Senior Women’s team was registered with the THA. A Primary School Girl’s team played in 1976 under our banner.

From the humble beginnings of ‘A’ and ’B’ grade teams in 1973, Northern Suburbs today field the following teams: - Minkeys, Modified Minkeys, Under 11 Girls, Under 13 Girls, Under 16 Girls, A3 Women, A2 Women, A1 Women, Under 11 Boys, Under 13 Boys, Under 15 Boys, A3 Men, A2 Men, A1 Men, and Veterans.

Our A1 team had to wait until 1977 to play in their first Grand Final. This was played at Queens Park Godsall Street fields against Newtown. The match was a deadlock after extra time with Newtown finally winning on penalty strokes.

Northern Suburbs was based at the following locations for fundraising: - Carlton Hotel (1972), Metropole Hotel (1973-1980), Empire Hotel (1981-1993). A special thanks goes to these establishments and numerous owners for their support over the years.

In 1992 due to the vision of Mr Jim Aspromourgos, Northern Suburbs, with Graham Mott (Dickie Dot) at the helm was invited to become a partner in the new Toowoomba Sports Club Inc. With the valued support of Mr Ian Knox, the club became partners in this venture with the Valleys RLFC, All Whites RLFC, Southern Suburbs RLFC, and the Toowoomba Basketball Assoc. Life members Mr Max Higgins and Mr Ken Kerr are both directors of the Toowoomba Sports Club Inc.

Having celebrated the Toowoomba Sports Club Inc’s 4th anniversary on the 2nd August 1997, North's has now secured their financial future… A future that will help our sport grow and prosper.
